ICMAB students participated in the International Students’ Conference in Sri Lanka

The Institute of Certified Management Accountants of Sri Lanka (CMA Sri Lanka) hosted its first International Students’ Conference on the theme “Impact of Technology and AI for the Accounting Profession” held on Saturday, 19th of August 2023 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. ICMAB nominated five students, Mr. M A Farhan, Mr. Md. Biplob Talukder, Mr. Palash Kumar Chowdhury, Mr. Muhammad Abdur Rahman, and Mr. Siraj Ud Dowla Chowdhury, for the conference.

Mr. M A Farhan presented a technical paper at the conference on “Bangladesh Perspective in Embracing Technology in the Accounting Profession”. Linking the Smart Bangladesh Vision 2041, and the AI strategy & development roadmap of the Bangladesh Government, Mr. Farhan presented the advantages, challenges, and opportunities of embracing technology for the accounting professionals of Bangladesh. He opined that the accounting profession in Bangladesh is on a trajectory of transformation with technology and AI at its core. Embracing technology presents significant opportunities for accountants to elevate their roles and contribute meaningfully to the financial ecosystem. He also cited the role of the professional bodies in addressing the challenges and in creating an environment that fosters innovation and continuous learning. He concluded his presentation by mentioning that through collaborative efforts and strategic planning, Bangladesh’s accounting profession can leverage the potential of technological advancements in achieving new heights of success.

The session chairman, Mr. Ruchira Perera, Governing Council Member, CMA Sri Lanka, and the session co-chairman, Ms. Sureka Ketawala, Governing Council Member, CMA Sri Lanka, highly appreciated the presentation. They emphasized that the immediate, medium-term, and strategic planning of the professional bodies as presented shall be considered seriously even to survive in the coming days. The session ended with a vibrant interactive session among the participants from the SAFA member countries.
