ICMAB and BAIUST Sign MoU to Strengthen CMA Education and Professional Development

 

The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) and Bangladesh Army International University of Science and Technology (BAIUST) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on November 4, 2025, aimed at strengthening professional advancement in Cost and Management Accounting (CMA).

The signing ceremony, held at the BAIUST premises in Cumilla, brought together senior representatives from both institutions. Mr. Md. Kausar Alam FCMA, Vice President of ICMAB, and Lt. Col. Khandoker Mahmud Hossain, SPP, psc (Retd.), Registrar, BAIUST, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions.

Distinguished attendees from ICMAB included Mr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman FCMA and Mr. S. M. Zahir Uddin Haider FCMA, Council Members; Mr. Md. Mostafizur Rahman FCMA (F-0486); Professor Abul Kashem, Coordinator (Part-time), ICMAB Cumilla Study Centre; Mr. Md. Abdul Maleque, Additional Director (AAD), ICMAB; and Mr. Kazi Md. Asiful Alam, Officer, ICMAB Cumilla Study Centre. Representing BAIUST were Brigadier General Mohammad Nur Hossain, BSP, psc, Vice Chancellor; Lt. Col. Khandoker Mahmud Hossain, SPP, psc (Retd.), Registrar; Professor Dr. Md. Tahidur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Business; Associate Professor Dr. Fatema Johara, Head, Department of Business Administration; and other senior faculty members. More than 50 students also participated in the signing ceremony.

 

As part of the agreement, BAIUST students and graduates will be eligible for course exemptions in the CMA program, making professional accounting education more accessible. The collaboration will also facilitate joint academic projects, research initiatives, and knowledge-sharing programs to align academic training with evolving industry needs.

In his remarks, Brigadier General Mohammad Nur Hossain, BSP, psc, commended ICMAB for initiating the collaboration and urged faculty members to foster innovative teaching and learning approaches. ICMAB Vice President Mr. Md. Kausar Alam FCMA emphasized that the partnership would enhance the role of CMAs in Bangladesh by bridging the gap between academic education and professional practice.

During the program, Dr. Mohammed Belal Uddin FCMA, Professor, Department of Accounting, Comilla University, presented a paper on “Professional Management Accounting Education in Bangladesh: Implications for Business Graduates.” He highlighted the career advantages of earning a CMA qualification, particularly for leadership roles in business organizations. More than 300 students attended the session.

The initiative was warmly welcomed by participants, who expressed optimism that the collaboration will strengthen academia–industry linkages, expand professional recognition of CMAs, and contribute to Bangladesh’s economic development.
