ICMAB and AIS Department of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) Join Hands to Strengthen CMA Professional Advancement
In a significant step toward fostering academic collaboration and advancing the Cost and Management Accounting (CMA) profession, the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) and the Department of Accounting and Information Systems (AIS) of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement, formalized on April 13, 2025, at BUP, marks a new era of partnership, facilitating enhanced opportunities for students, educators, and professionals in the field of accounting and finance.
The MoU was signed by Mr. Md. Kausar Alam FCMA, Vice President, ICMAB, and Dr. Md. Tapan Mahmud, Chairperson & Associate Professor, Department of Business Administration in Accounting & Information Systems, BUP. The ceremony was attended by distinguished representatives from both institutions. Among the attendees from ICMAB were Mr. Mohammed Salim FCMA, Council Member & Past President; Mr. Mohammed Jahangir Alam FCMA, Council Member and Mr. Md. Abdul Maleque, Additional Director and Head of the Education Department, ICMAB.
Representing BUP at the signing ceremony were Brigadier General Md Aminul Akbar Khan, awc, afwc, psc, MPhil, Dean, Faculty of Business Studies (FBS); Dr. Md. Tapan Mahmud, Chairperson & Associate Professor; Sirajum Munira Chowdhury Otosi, Lecturer and Mubashira Khan, Lecturer of the AIS Department, along with other senior faculty members.
This strategic collaboration is designed to provide BUP students and graduates with course exemptions and admission scholarships when enrolling in the CMA program, making professional accounting education more accessible and rewarding. Beyond these immediate benefits, the partnership also sets the stage for joint academic initiatives, research collaborations, and knowledge-sharing programs aimed at equipping future professionals with the skills and insights needed in a rapidly evolving business environment.
During the ceremony, Brigadier General Md Aminul Akbar Khan, awc, afwc, psc, MPhil, Dean, BUP expressed his appreciation to ICMAB for initiating this collaboration and encouraged faculty members to actively engage in fostering innovative learning experiences. ICMAB Vice President, Mr. Md. Kausar Alam FCMA, underscored the significance of this partnership in advancing the CMA profession, bridging academic learning with industry demands, and reinforcing Bangladesh’s professional accounting landscape.
The initiative was widely lauded by all participants, who reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the successful execution of the MoU’s objectives. This collaboration is expected to pave the way for greater professional recognition of CMAs, stronger academic-industry linkages, and an enhanced role for cost and management accountants in driving economic progress.
